ME Series F555/F560 Heated GRP Wash Water Hose Reel Cabinet Kit
Insulated Floor-Standing Washdown Station with Low-Voltage Heater | 15m to 40m Hose Options
The ME Series Heated GRP Wash Water Hose Reel Cabinet Kit is a premium, floor-mounted washdown station designed for industrial, commercial and utility sites where the hose reel needs additional protection from weather exposure and freezing conditions.
An automatic spring-rewind ME Series reel is installed inside an insulated glass-reinforced plastic - GRP - cabinet incorporating a low-voltage space heater for frost protection. The package also includes a black water hose, trigger-operated spray gun, feeder hose, base-mounted bulkhead connection and a ¾-inch water isolation ball valve.
Four hose configurations are available, providing a choice between a compact 15-metre large-bore assembly and a maximum working reach of 40 metres. The shorter variants use an F555 reel, while the two longer variants use the larger-capacity F560 chassis.
The assembly has a published maximum working pressure of 20 bar - approximately 300 psi and is specified by Henry Pumps for clean wash water only.

A Protected, Permanently Available Washdown Point
Open hose reels can be vulnerable when installed at exposed or remote sites. Water retained inside the hose, spray gun, swivel or feeder connection may freeze, while the reel itself can be affected by weather, dirt and accidental contact.
The heated GRP cabinet version brings the complete washdown assembly into a protective floor-standing enclosure.
It is designed for installations where:
- The washdown point is outside or in an unheated area
- Freezing temperatures may occur
- There is no suitable wall for direct reel mounting
- A tidier, enclosed installation is preferred
- The hose reel needs protection when not in use
- A permanent utility-style washdown station is required
- Longer hose reach or a larger hose bore is needed
- The hose and gun must remain readily accessible throughout the year
The cabinet is insulated and fitted with a low-voltage space heater. Stainless-steel hinges and a stainless-steel clasp are used to improve weather resistance, while the wash-water supply enters through a bulkhead arrangement in the base of the cabinet.

Installation-Specific Items
Unless expressly included in the Henry Pumps quotation, the following should be treated as site-specific:
- Concrete foundation or structural plinth
- Floor anchors or resin fixings
- Incoming water pipework
- External pipe insulation or trace heating
- Backflow-prevention equipment
- Electrical supply cable
- Local electrical isolation
- Transformer or low-voltage power supply
- Protective electrical devices
- Drainage
- Vehicle-impact protection
- Site installation and commissioning
Insulated GRP Cabinet
The reel is housed inside a glass-reinforced plastic cabinet rather than being left permanently exposed.
The cabinet helps:
- Shield the reel from direct weather exposure
- Keep the hose and gun stored inside a defined enclosure
- Reduce contamination from dirt and site debris
- Protect the reel from incidental contact
- Retain heat produced by the internal heater
- Create a more organised permanent washdown station
- Improve the appearance of a utility or plant-room installation
Low-Voltage Heater for Frost Protection
A low-voltage space heater is installed inside the insulated cabinet to assist in maintaining the internal temperature during cold conditions.
The heater is intended to protect the enclosed components, including:
- Hose reel
- Retracted hose
- Trigger gun
- Feeder hose
- Internal fittings
- Internal section of the cabinet fluid path
For the frost-protection arrangement to work effectively:
- The heater must remain operational
- The correct electrical supply must be available
- The cabinet door must be fully closed after use
- The hose and trigger gun must be returned inside
- Damaged door hardware or insulation must be repaired
- External water pipework must be protected separately
- The base valve and exposed connections must be included in the site assessment
Frost Protection Is Not a Guarantee Against Freezing
Performance will depend on:
- External temperature
- Wind exposure
- Heater output
- Electrical-supply continuity
- Cabinet condition
- Door closure
- Installation location
- Length of exposed incoming pipework
- Whether water remains trapped outside the heated space
The product should be marketed as heated for frost protection, not as “frost-proof”.
Four Hose Length and Diameter Options
| Online variant | Reel chassis | Maximum pressure | Legacy cross-reference | Published reel and hose weight* | General selection position |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20m × 19mm | F555 | 20 bar | 54R1012 | Approx. 48kg | Balanced general-purpose option |
| 15m × 25mm | F555 | 20 bar | 54R1014 | Approx. 53kg | Larger bore where shorter reach is sufficient |
| 40m × 19mm | F560 | 20 bar | 54R1013 | Approx. 75kg | Maximum hose reach |
| 30m × 25mm | F560 | 20 bar | 54R1015 | Approx. 80kg | Long reach with larger-bore hose |
*The published weights relate to the underlying reel and fitted hose, not the complete cabinet, heater and pedestal assembly.
The table maps the four cabinet codes as shown and identifies the corresponding F555 and F560 reel capacities in its main ME Series reel table.
Which Hose Configuration Should I Choose?
20m × 19mm — General-Purpose Choice
The 20m × 19mm version offers a useful working radius without requiring the larger F560 chassis.
It is likely to suit many:
- Pumping-station washdown points
- Workshops
- Utility compounds
- Plant rooms
- Vehicle and equipment cleaning areas
- General industrial cleaning duties
15m × 25mm — Larger Bore, Shorter Reach
The 25mm internal diameter provides a larger water path where hose friction needs to be reduced or greater flow potential is required, while the 15-metre length keeps the assembly on the smaller F555 reel.
This version may suit installations where the washdown area is relatively close to the cabinet but a larger hose bore is preferred.
40m × 19mm — Maximum Reach
The 40m × 19mm option provides the longest working radius in the range.
It may be appropriate where one cabinet must serve:
- A large compound
- Multiple items of plant
- Long treatment lanes
- Remote cleaning points
- Areas where additional washdown stations would otherwise be needed
The operator must consider the practical handling of a 40-metre hose and the pressure loss over the full extended length.
30m × 25mm — Long Reach and Larger Bore
The 30m × 25mm configuration combines substantial reach with the largest available hose bore.
It is the heaviest underlying reel and hose option and requires the larger F560 chassis. It should be selected where the available water supply, cabinet inlet arrangement and complete system can support the intended duty.
Flow-rate notice: No guaranteed litres-per-minute figure is published for the complete cabinet assembly. Actual flow depends on the available pressure, water-supply capacity, ¾-inch cabinet inlet, feeder hose, trigger gun, fittings, elevation and deployed hose length.
Automatic Spring-Rewind Operation
The ME Series reel uses an internal spring to retrieve the hose after use.
The operator:
- Opens the cabinet
- Withdraws the required hose length
- Opens the cabinet isolation valve where required
- Controls the water using the trigger gun
- Guides the hose back towards the reel after use
- Returns the gun and hose inside the enclosure
- Closes the cabinet door
This removes the need to manually coil 15 to 40 metres of large-bore hose and helps prevent the hose from being left across floors, roads and walkways.
The hose must remain under control during retraction. It should never be released and allowed to rewind without guidance.
Heavy-Duty Trigger Water Gun
Each version is supplied with a trigger-operated water gun.
This allows the operator to control water flow at the point of use, helping to:
- Reduce unnecessary water consumption
- Stop flow while moving between cleaning tasks
- Improve operator convenience
- Avoid repeated visits to the cabinet valve
- Provide a controlled wash or rinse
The trigger gun is a flow-control device. It is not a recognised form of backflow protection and should not be treated as the only means of isolating the equipment for maintenance.
Feeder Hose and Cabinet Fluid Path
The fixed water supply connects to a ¾-inch ball valve located at the cabinet base.
From there, the water passes through the cabinet’s bulkhead connection and feeder hose before entering the rotating reel fluid path. This keeps the incoming supply connection close to the pedestal and avoids routing a loose feeder hose around the outside of the cabinet.
The arrangement provides:
- A defined fixed water connection
- Local supply isolation
- A tidier installation
- Reduced unsupported hose
- Easier access for commissioning and maintenance
The precise thread form and gender presented to the site installer should be confirmed on the completed Henry Pumps build.
Typical Applications
The heated GRP cabinet kit is well suited to appropriately designed washdown points at:
- Water treatment works
- Wastewater and sewage treatment sites
- Pumping stations
- Reservoir facilities
- Water-utility compounds
- Process-water installations
- Industrial plant rooms
- Factories and manufacturing sites
- Engineering workshops
- Vehicle and plant wash areas
- Maintenance depots
- Agricultural premises
- Construction and civil-engineering compounds
- Remote or unmanned sites
- External installations exposed to freezing temperatures
The product can be positioned for water-industry and utility applications without claiming approval or endorsement by Thames Water or any other named water company.

The cabinet should be positioned so that the hose can reach the intended working area without routinely crossing traffic routes, unprotected sharp edges, open tanks, electrical equipment or hot machinery.
Structural Base
The pedestal should not be fixed to:
- Loose paving
- Lightweight slabs
- Damaged concrete
- An unassessed suspended floor
- Ground containing unknown buried services
A competent installer should specify the foundation and fixings once the final cabinet weight, baseplate and operating loads are known.
Vehicle-Impact Protection
At yards, pumping stations and treatment sites, consider installing suitable bollards or barriers where vehicles or mobile plant could strike the cabinet.
Electrical Installation
The heater requires an appropriate electrical supply and must be installed in accordance with the confirmed manufacturer’s specification.
Before installation, establish:
- Heater operating voltage
- Heater power consumption
- Whether a transformer is included
- Whether thermostatic or frost-stat control is included
- Required electrical isolation
- Cable size and route
- Protective-device requirements
- Cable-entry arrangement
- Earthing requirements for any metallic components

The electrical connection should be completed by a suitably competent person.
“Low voltage” should not be interpreted as meaning that no electrical risk assessment, isolation or protection is required.
Protecting the External Water Supply
The heater protects only the components located within the heated cabinet.
The following may remain exposed:
- Incoming water pipe
- External isolation equipment
- Backflow-prevention assembly
- Section of pipe beneath the cabinet
- Drainage fittings
- Electrical conduit
- Any connection outside the insulated enclosure
These components may require separate insulation, trace heating, enclosure or drain-down provisions.
